Various artists mixed by Scuba - Sub:stance Volume 1Title:Sub:stance Volume 1 Artist:Various artists mixed by Scuba Release:25th January 2010 Label:Ostgut Ton Maybe its because I wasted my teenage years in the beginning of the Eighties, people of my generation always lived, judged and listened in a kind of “uniform thinking”. Mods, Punks, Skinheads, New Wave, Teds….and so on and on. I must admit in the middle of the Eighties. In the end of the Eighties Crossover and Techno was a real clearance, or better say an act of liberation everything was possible. Luckily I forgot to live this way, but sometimes I still associate names with a certain kind of music. Scuba is one of the names I associate with deep dubstep music. But Scuba isn’t just one of the most influential dupstep pioneers, Scuba is also known for his foresighted and open-minded view on music. Nowadays his sets are known for their bridging content playing atmospheric dance music somewhere between Techno, Experimental and Dubstep. After moving to Berlin in 2007 Scuba founded the Sub:stance party series in 2008. A party series in the spirit of bridging between different styles, artists and audience. After being highly critically acclaimed for Sub:stance, it was a logical progression to release the idea behind Sub:stance as a compilation. So with Sub:stance Volume 1, which also means we can expect more of this series, you become witness of a quiet riot. Twenty-four tracks by Sigha, Airhead, Joy Orbison, Pangaea, Shortstuff, Untold, Surgeon, AQF, DFRNT, Badawi, Mount Kimba, Ramadanman, Instra:mental, George Fitzgerald, Mal, Joker, Shakelton and naturally Scuba himself. This compilation is an absolute must have, it’s surprising, innovative and … rich, if you know what I mean. Scuba plays with moods and the tempo in a nonesuch way. He starts slowly, becomes a fast train, stops suddenly the tempo again and rewinds. Wow! And the way he merges the moods and soundscapes is like standing in the eye of the storm. I must admit (even it sounds childish) I felt in love with this outstanding compilation at first sight/sound! A real must have album! |
